Significantly disappointed by the hype surrounding smart thermostats, and also being asked to redesign lighting and heating systems to actually genuinely conserve energy, I ("energy saving rob!") trading as ESR Electrical have a lot of experience in evaluating genuine energy saving measures and dividing fact from marketing fiction. • Control the heating per hour, per room, per exact temperature required.
• Change the lighting to LED, but a good brand so there's no maintenance. Check the exact number of lumens, given out per watt (don't just go by the wattage, some aren't very good!). Then check how much light it will still give out after two years because sometimes they go down to only 50%.
• Examine very, very carefully the energy saving claims made by assessors, check all of their "facts" (and presumptions) extremely carefully, as often things do not in practice save the energy promised at first by the salesman.
